Master of technology driven design, Issey Miyake previewed his AW 2009 Ready-to-Wear collection at Le Carousel De Louvre in Paris on Friday March 6th 2009. The show was a study in body movement and geometric principals. The presentation featured four karate players: Sabrina and Jessica Bual, Kenji Usuri (who performed in the middle of the show) and Nao Mooroka (who opened and ended the show). The relationship between the human body and clothing was explored by putting focus on the karate masters’ fluidity and energy. Highlights of the collection included Miyake’s signature pleating and also examined the architectural elements of geometric patterns and straight lines. Combining these two aspects, the collection captured Issey Miyake’s constant and continuous research into new technologies coupled with the beauty of movement. For AW 2009, while other designers put an emphasis on throwbacks to the twenties, forties and eighties, this collection stayed in step with the Issey Miyake design vision of the future.
