The busy and impersonal streets of 7th avenue and the 20ths streets have finally found a cozy yet modern American Bistro. Highpoint Bistro and bar recently opened offers an innovative American cuisine spiced up with some world fusion accents. The menu offers a great variety of fish and meat entrees based on local tri-state area products. Buying local, surprising the customer with a new take on classic bistro food (from taste to presentation) and über fresh cooking is what you will enjoy at Highpoint.
At the table situated between warm brick walls we started with the signature mini cart of fresh flat bread and yogurt while the appetizers came to the table. Make sure to keep your appetite away from that cart for the polenta served with quail eggs and the tasty Tuna Tartar tacos. The Buffalo Chicken Lollipops are also a fun and unexpected plate to share.
For the entrée I recommend the High Point Hanger Steak. The sliced beef is accompanied by a savvy sweet and salty balance of crisp polenta and red onion and blackberry marmalade that blends really well with the meat. The desert was probably my favorite part of the meal with the very well executed chocolate soufflé. Make sure to order the soufflé a little in advance if you are in a bit of a rush as they are cooked fresh to order. About a fifteen minute wait should be expected….but it’s so worth it! The soufflé has a rich and strong chocolate taste that gives the right density to its light creamy mousse texture and tastes as authentic as you can get. This desert is a must try!
If you don’t have enough time for the soufflé or want to mix it up try the Crème Brulée Egglings . The chef revisits here the principle of the “oeuf a la coque” with a degustation of vanilla, banana-rum and raspberry infused crème brulées presented in real eggshells. Simply perfect to finish the meal on a light but sweet taste and easy to share. Highpoint also offers a wide range of wines and cocktails and is great to visit for a glass of wine at the bar before or after dinner.
