From the start a name like Cafe Del Rey is a good indication of where and what you’ll be experiencing. The dining area offers magnificent views on the Marina. The waterfront atmosphere and lavish teak deck already transport you into a feeling of relaxation.
When it comes to food Jer- ne offers a seasonal menu based on local market products. If you are lucky you may be greeted at your table by the young and very talented chef Joshua Hasho who can be frequently spotted at the Santa Monica Farmers Market on his Harley! As a Michigan native, Joshua Hasho focus on the elevation of unpretentious ingredients, creating what he calls “refined rustic cuisine”.
One of the most memorable moments of my diner started with the butternut squash soup, Frangelico and pumpkin oil. The soup arrived to the table, presented on a wood tray filled with shaved cinnamon sticks smoked on sight to deliver a perfect aroma experience that delicately complimented the soup! To perfect the moment the sommelier recommended us a delicious California Chardonnay from the Cakebread cellars. To go on with your meal try the bass with caramelized fennel, charred pepper coulis and candied oranges. This rather simple dish shines through the freshness of each element on the plate.
If the fish was quite diet friendly, make sure to end your meal on a sweet note and splurge for the soft chocolate dessert. This chocolate ganache with dulce de leche and banana croutons offers rich and delicate flavors that will end your dining experience on a comforting and satisfying touch. Only confidence and maturity can deliver a menu where simplicity is the achievement of refinement and pure perfection of taste.
