The election of Barack Omaba is an event that so many Americas waited for with great anticipation. There was this feeling that he was sure to win, but at the same time a collective fear that early celebration could lead to jinxing it. Then there was the dreaded threat of the Bradley Effect. Yet, we didn’t travel deep into the night before the outcome of the election was obvious. I think this election meant so much to so many that I’m sure people will ask where they were when they got the news.
I was at the Morton’s Election Day party and they certainly did make the build up to the big announcement a little easier to wait through. As an absentee voter, I cast my choices a week earlier. Yet I was forced to choose between red and blue once again with the specialty drinks of the night. The Republicantini had vodka and pomegranate liquor while the Democtatini had vodka and Blue Curacao. Now I normally vote Democrat down the line, but in this case I had to “cross the aisle” and order the less sweet Republicantini. This drink was served ice cold and stiff as a Dana Perino press conference, which I for once welcomed.
With the Obama margin widening I looked over the menu thinking that I should go lighter than a full meal as the odds were looking better that we would be taking this party well into the night. With that in mind I aimed at keeping sustenance on the bar bites menu. My pal Greg and I agreed that the sliders and the filet mignon sandwiches would be ideal for sharing. When our waitress suggested we add the seasoned fries with blue cheese, we found little reason to argue. The food arrived with the election results almost certain. The sliders stood tall with juicy 2 inch beef patties cooked a perfect medium rare. The filet sandwiches were a bit more highly anticipated and rightly so. I could decide which was softer, the beef or the bread, delicious. The fries were a nice touch. They were thick cut, lightly seasoned and generously supplied with blue cheese. A tip of the hat goes to Morton’s for having the faith to start the party early and for providing some of the best bar food one could hope for. Celebrating the results with the staff and friends was certainly a memorable experience.
