Mirror Lake Inn – Lake Placid

Posted on 31 October 2012

An early morning’s drive from New York City will have you at Lake Placid’s Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa in time to enjoy lunch overlooking the lake. This AAA 4 Diamond rated hotel is just minutes from Lake Placid’s Olympic Village, but just far enough away to indulge in the serene glow of Mirror Lake. Experience both the tranquil setting and a number of activities as you set aside the pace and the sounds of the city during your stay.
My decompression was enhanced as the rich mahogany walls, antique décor and a crackling fireplace encompassed me at the main entrance.
Guests can expect unique Adirondack themed rooms, which incorporate earthy tones and adornments from the nearby mountains. Traditional amenities, such as flat screen TV’s, are subtly hidden in the rooms so as not to have today’s technology so apparent. You are also encouraged to avoid cell phone usage while in common areas on the hotel’s property.
Dining options include The View restaurant, a higher end choice, which offers breathtaking views in an elegant candle lit setting. Standout entrees include my personal order, the Swordfish a’la Niçoise (with olive tapenade and extra virgin olive oil) and locally raised Kilcoyne Farms Braised Beef Short Ribs. For a more casual setting, guests can opt for Täste Bistro, a friendly choice that offers an excellent drink list and tasty menu selections from BLT’s to Heirloom Tomato Linguini. If you’re in the mood for a pub-style menu and vibe, look no further than The Cottage for lunch or dinner on the waterfront deck.
When morning comes, enjoy the sun rising in the distance as it reflects majestically over the lake. My room featured a window, which provided a direct view of the glowing mountains as I sat up in my bed. Allow this tranquility to continue with a visit to the onsite spa. Guests can enjoy a variety of body treatments, including the Adirondack Maple Sugar Body Scrub, which will leave you smelling like a scrumptious batch of pancakes, and a range of styles of massage.
From treating yourself to fine dining to pampering yourself with a luxurious spa treatment, you can simply indulge at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa.

Mirror Lake was recently voted top resort in the Northeast by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler.
