Lana Del Ray seats Alexa Chung

Posted on 29 May 2012

Lana Del Rey has scored millions of YouTube hits with her cult single “Video Games” (current count: 40,410,504), sparked controversy over everything from her live performances to her lips, and launched a nostalgia-fueled beauty phenomenon (pin-up girl hair, major lashes, and signature talons) along the way. She’s also become an official fashion muse: After listening to her lush, haunting vocals, Mulberry creative director Emma Hill was inspired to whip up the Del Rey bag for summer—a classic, boxy, carryall satchel created in the singer’s honor.

Although Mulberry debuted its latest go-to bag in February, alongside the Del Rey—a structured satchel with a top handle inspired by singer and muse we all know as Lana Del Rey, being such a hot ticket item amongst trendsetters across the globe. A-listers, all over the past few months and is even threatening to unseat Alexa Chung’s Alexa bag as the British band’s most popular piece of arm candy.

We’ve always been fashion-minded,” says the Brit tastemaker, who has partnered with designers like Mulberry’s Emma Hill, Meadham Kirchhoff, and Gretchen Jones—not to mention retailers like Topshop—on exclusive prints. And the strategy has paid off; in our estimation, Nail Rock has some of the most forward-thinking designs in the increasingly high-stakes game of nail overlays—and a particularly good instict for collaboration.

For those who are more intimately familiar with the nuances of the singer’s slim oval, 1950s-inspired nails—which command nearly as much presence onstage as her famously pillowy mouth,On May 25th she launched a limited-edition series of “Lake Placid” designs, named after the singer’s hometown. Each one is made to resemble one of Del Rey’s favorite nail looks, like the crimson-and-nude tips with the slim goldV painted across their surface that she frequently wears in concert. With their chip-resistant finish, they’re perfect for pitching a tent in the Adirondacks—or rummaging through one of the singer’s petrol-colored namesake bags.

Although the Alexa bag launched in 2011 was highly anticipated and endorsed through its name sake and her socialite celebrity factor, Alex Chung, Del Ray’s influential storm on the music and fashion industry simultaneously has brought a questioning to Chung and Mulberry’s relationship to to chose a row to sit in as we watch her show.
