From the second you set foot in the downtown L.A. hotel Figeroa you get the feeling that you are walking into a good friends Moroccan themed art space. The Layout of the hotel is littered with interested trinkets and nicknacks from all around the world, which will captivate your attention throughout your stay. The receptionist was very welcoming with my late check time. She led me up to my room, which was very much to my liking: Dark walls, big windows, hanging tapestries, and large leather chairs. The room was far from your typical hotel room, it was more like a hand written note than a standardized supermarket greeting card. As I was exploring the room I felt like it would have been very possible to mess up in the execution of the decor, it could easily have come of as pretentious, or campy, but whoever was in charge of decorating this suite did so flawlessly.

I awoke the next morning to a simple breakfast of toast and coffee in their ground level restaurant. It wasn’t very hard to find something to do around the hotel, downtown is a hot bed for cultural excursions of all kinds. It is a mere three blocks from the staples center, movie theaters, bowling alleys, art galleries, a variety of antique shops.

After my day of exploring the area around the hotel I came back to spend some hours by their large outdoor pool. As I sipped on a complimentary margarita in the spanish tiled jacuzzi I thought about how the hotel ‘Fig’ is the best way to get an authentic Downtown L.A. experience with the perfect mix of Moroccan satisfaction.
